  1. Yeah it is possible if Designer is involved in supervision and has authority, appropriate materials and skilled labour to implement his design .

  2. Sir, Umar there is one software for masonry which i am using to get the capacity of the structure i think if adnan need the streeses or forces on the wall then he can try using 3Muri software its also a free ware you can download and analyse your structure for the seismic response it works on Euro code but you can define own limitations as well. But only analysis are much better with this one...

    Masters After Be

experience does not help in getting good grades/grades but should help one identify what to study in order to pursue particular career path.

  5. Its more than that. You have to see what seismic zone your building lies and have to select the appropriate level of ductility and over-strength. I would recommend skimming through ACI Chapter 21. I have also attached some documents pertinent to the discussion that will help you develop a better understanding of aforesaid. Go through read them and if you have any question post in the forums Goodluck! How do Beam-Column Joints in RC Buildings Resist Earthquakes.pdf How do Columns in RC Buildings Resist Earthquakes.pdf How to make building ductile for Good Seismic Performace.pdf How do Earthquake Affect Reinforced Concrete Buildings.pdf What is seismic design philosophy of Buildings.pdf

    Welcome Everyone! :)

Asalam-o-alikum wr wb everyone! I am very excited to announce the launch of "Structural Engineering Forum of Pakistan". Its a open discussion forum directed to Civil/Structural Engineers. The purpose is to have discussions, to shun ambiguity and to overall uplift the structural design practice. I welcome everyone aboard. I hope this forum meets serves its purpose, May Almighty ALLAH bless you all. Warm Regards, Makhzumi!

  8. Posting this thread to break the ice. Modelling domes is very easy in Etabs/SAP. All you need to do is to draw the curvature of the dome in elevation by a series of straight lines, but draw only the one half. Then using the apex at centre point, radially extrude the line say 24 times at 15 degree intervals (or 48 times at 7.5 deg intervals. This feature is under Edit> Extrude Lines to areas. You can further use this geometry for Finite Element Analaysis.

    Vibrant Effort!

Asalam o alaikum everyone! I am Sohaib Anwar and a graduate in civil engineering from 'Military College of Engineering,NUST,Pakistan'.This forum is a vibrant initiative and will surely be of help to students and professionals. All aboard are also most welcome to join my website http://www.engineersdaily.com Buckup admins and users and try to make this forum info-rich with out-of-the-box solutions, resources & discussions in structural engineering. 10. Hello Guys. According to your opinion after how much practical experience one should go for masters?

  11. Pier Luigi Nervi (June 21, 1891 – January 9, 1979) was an Italian engineer. He studied at the University of Bologna and qualified in 1913. Dr. Nervi taught as a professor of engineering at Rome University from 1946-61. He is widely known as a structural engineer and an architect, and for his innovative use of reinforced concrete. Attached is the pic from on his structures. Roof of multipurpose hall, material is RCC.

  12. i am doing my final year project and the project is related to concrete block masonry reinforcement to make the masonry buildings seismically strong. i want to know that is there any software which can be used to design and analyse the masonry structures.

  13. this is not the reply rather addition to the question that how to select the field of MS,most of the students are going for structural engineering, there are other designing fields of civil engineering,if anyone can guide ?

  14. one more thing i would like to ask that what joint properties we will assign to walls in non-frame and in frame infill wall. i mean to say wether that would be hing or fixed support

  15. Use TNO DIANA.I am using it for prediction of damage in old masonry buildings due to tunneling operations. This software is the best I hv used so far with modelling capabilities for seismic, geotechnical, hydraulic and tunneling problems.

  16. with reference to your post here. Thanks for explaining the situation. I assume you are using ACI provisions for masonry. There is a software called Structural Masonry Design Systems. You can use the trail version of it. You can download the trail version by clicking here. The trail version has only 3 restrictions, but you can do complete analysis as none of it hinders you to perform a full design. Review the link posted below to see the examples(the seminar handouts). http://www.ncma.org/...gnSoftware.aspx I hope that helps

  17. sir basically i am doing final year project on earthquake resistant masonry structures and our proposal is to reinforce hollow concrete block masonry wall and also the reinforcement of infill walls in frame structures . and i need a software by which i can check where in the wall stresses are high and upon that we will give the no. , spacing and length of reinforcement bars in the wall, and one more thing , you have mentioned that you are using MASS software so can you send me file of this software on my e mail address. i will be very thank full to you

  20. as per my understanding if we provide some additional dowel bars that are embedded in both column and beam at joint then it can resist moment. correct me if i am wrong.

  21. Yeah and its always good to work after B.E. so that one can save money for masters too.

  22. I would say after 1.5 or 3 years is good. Its hard to do masters when you have been away from academics for long. In fact, any experience is better than having no experience and going straight for MS or MS leading to Phd!

  23. should have 2 to 3 years experience not more than that.
