  1. You can read conditions in which we may reduce live loads in attached document. When you will select reduceable live load in software, it will automatically reduce the live load according to the Code. It is economical and logical to reduce live load in certain cases, read attached doc, because probability of occurrance of full live load in all floors at same time is very less. Suggestions To Admin

Dear Umar, the admin! here are some of my suggestions i would like to include in our forum to make it more unique! we need a section called Trusted or Solved Examples or Learning Tutorials in which we can have subsections like ETABS, SAFE, STAAD, SAP etc... or by topics e.g. FOUNDATIONS, SLABS, FEM understanding, Intrepretting results of FEM etc i think by subject is better. Now every one can submit an example. After verifying the examples by us or other members, we can make it public on forum, so that it helps new learners of FEM softwares to download and understand it. I think this is the unique thing i havent seen in other forums even in very famous international forums... 2-We need a new section called Model Review...If any one wants to ask to review his/her model. They can upload it and after checking we can upload it back so that they can learn! again unique feature. By the way its all time consuming but i assure you i can go far with that concept personally 3-New section for developing new design sheets, vba programs, writing new articles or books and authors asking for help for joint writing. like i want my self some one who can assist me in make a new book on etabs. but unfortunately i had been very busy. but tomorrow my current projc gonna finish so i will think abt it seriously! 4-Need a new section for assisting structural programs like CAD, REVIT etc where we can share LISP files..by LISP files i dont mean the drafting help files, i mean rather pure engineering or related to engineering work files and stuff and tricks 5-Now i think we need atleast two moderating members to just arrange topics and threads and warn members for not posting in right section. They should develop the appropriate policies and upload on our forum and then appropriate authorities given to those moderators. 6-I dont know if we have a image host or not..if we dont we need one! I will add more but for the time being thats it lets have a discussion public or private...to consider these!

  5. Nice reply Umar. And I appreciate Rana's efforts and valuable suggestions. Here I just only want to add that if we add a forum for job opportunities I hope we can make audience active as I have observed that the ratio of posting or sharing is much less as expected. At the stage if continuous reminders to those members who are not engaged in any activity through E-Mail. One more thing which I would like to add here the forum for research work should be started where every one can share research work. However its great effort to give the Pakistani Structural Engineers Voice.

  7. Salaam everbody! We know more, when we share our knowledge, and this forum is platform where we can share and get knowledge relating to structural engineering. Umar makhzomi has done good job in spreading this forum, having posted an ad on facebook. But we need to do more,as facebook is not enough.More people should be inlvolved in this forum which will help us discuss our problems related to structural engineering and eventually can help us in becoming better engineers. Please give your suggestions as to how can we publicize this forum. cheers.

  8. Becoming a great project manager need so much learning. You need to juggle time, money, people, equipment and materials. To do it all, some people feel like they have to be a miracle worker! But it's not the case. Just take these essential tips... Initiate Carefully When you start your project, wind it up slowly. Define the process by which you're going to manage your project from start to finish. Adopt a Project Life Cycle so you know what you have to do and by when. Then take these steps: 1. Define the project goals, timeline and schedule 2. Quantify the amount of resource you need 3. Specify the project scope and deliverables 4. Decide if you need to outsource to a supplier 5. Recruit your team and set up a project office Plan In Depth Then identify all of the tasks needed to complete your project. Prioritize them and calculate how long each will take. Create a detailed project schedule, so you know what you have to do, when and how. Then take these steps: 6. Identify the number of resources you need 7. Set a budget and plan your expenditure 8. List the deliverables and set quality targets 9. Plan your communications so everyone is informed 10. Decide how you are going to manage risks, changes and issues Execute Swiftly The next step is to execute your plan quickly and efficiently. This is the longest phase in the project, so you need to work smart to complete this phase on time. Take these steps: 11. Record time spent by your team completing tasks 12. Frequently check your actual vs. planned progress 13. If you start falling behind, take action or get help 14. Resolve risks, issues and changes quickly 15. Keep your team motivated by rewarding good performance Close and learn When you've produced all of your deliverables and handed them over to your sponsor or customer, you're ready for closure. Do this by releasing project staff, contractors, suppliers and equipment. Then close your project office and handover documentation. Take the time to identify your lessons learned, as these will be invaluable to your next project. To learn more please visit https://www.mpmm.com/

  10. SAFE doesnt calculate punching if the point is on some line or wall or beam etc...Make sure you dont have any dummy line below those points. I checked your model and run it..Its giving all the values less than 1

  12. I am not agreed with you Rana. There are most experienced structural engineers in Pakistan but mostly the engaged ones doesn't have much time to use net due to tough schedules I personally know some of them. Where as the jobless or little less experience engineers can be key players if we introduce a job forum and invite companies or share the vacant jobs all over the world. We will have to go extra mile for the promotion of the site as well the structural engineers.

  13. Well im not in Pakistan but i have asked my friends in pak to start involving but due to i think lack of experience or having no job they are not posting here. Anyways i can bring other nationals here but they are much experienced and the pakistani ccommunity i interact with here is also experienced in terms of structural knowledge. Thats y i am waiting this forum to grow then they could really participate here bcz they are all seniors. they will not find much interest. Anyways i am trying...everyone should!

  14. Rightly said, this community can be a source of great information and as mentioned before somewhere in the forum, in "Uplifting" Structural Design Practise in Pakistan. It is the only way. Lets spread the word.

  16. To reduce moisture migration through concrete floors, place an impermeable water barrier over the rock and gravel before placing the concrete. Polyethylene fi lm is low cost and easily installed, but it is easily punctured and difficult to seal at the edges. More durable products are polyethylene-coated Kraft paper and glass-reinforced waterproof paper, extrusion coated on both sides with polyethylene. Use 8 mil or heavier material and do not puncture the barrier.

  17. Trusted or solved example. We do have a similar section. I think it would be good to make another section with the name you proposed once site gets more busy and we have more people that can contribute to it. The only concern is forum activity. Will do when its more busy. Model Review Its a very good suggestion but I am holding back.. When the forum gets more busier we will make it.. for now let stick to Structural Software Issues Suggestion 3 and 4, The thing is what you are saying is 100% the way it should be, but we need to have more fourm activity for that. Lets wait for some time.. then for sure Suggestion 5. We have 5 supermods. I will review and see if we need more. I am willing to add/make anyone moderator if he is interested and visits forum actively. Suggestion 6: You can upload all images in your post. attach them, and select the option to display in post where you want them. PM me and explain it why we need more? I think we need to start uploading stuff.. I am busy these days but will do soon! Thanks for the suggestions Rana. I highly value them. I want this place to be a bit more busy, then will update as required. cheers!
