  1. While Calculating vu (Punching Shear Stress) safe also takes into account effect of moments also. Please go through attached file. It explains in detail how Safe calculates punching shear. ftn01-03.pdf

  2. Look you can not model each and every thing in your structural software...Yes you can for research purposed but for practical purposes you should never because:- 1) It takes time and not practicle in tight schedules and dead lines 2) the affect of it might be less than only 1% 3) keep the things simple to understand for reviewing team and for your self too There are many assumptions, things we base our calculations on those. Many things we ignore and many we assume. Its engineering! I would recommend you to not model lean, as sir Umar said not model plaster and so on! Be a structural guy!

  3. never mind sir infact thanx alot sir may many and many people join in and get alot of benefits by sharing the knowledge as sharing knowledge increases the knowledge as you ppl are doing so alot of prayers and praises

  4. long term deflection multiplier accounts for deflection in members due to shrinkage and creep behavior in an approximate way. It is approximate because instantaneous dead deflection is multiplied by deflection multiplier and then this value is added in DL and LL deflection to get long-term deflection. Self weight multiplier option is used the software to compute dead weight of structure. If it is 1 then dead dead weight will be multiplied by 1. I edited title of thread as it can help in searching for particular topic in forum,I hope you will not mind.

    Sap Modeling Issues

well no one can give you each and every detail about how to model it. We can provide you with the basic guidelines and concept, provided that you have the background in using the appropriate options and commands in software. I know we all start learning from zero but you need some one who can train you step by step; may be in your office. I have downloaded your files and if possible i can give you files 2 hrs on weekend to make a tutorial for you! happy?

  6. He is right. Moreover, Never follow safe blindly. Punching shear is the easiest to calculate, just do manual checks.

  7. Well in SAFE the punching area is calculated based on the column or load size. When you are not placing any stiff section on the column center or the load size is not defined then you punchign area is reduced giving you more reinforcement. So when you put the right column or load size it gives you correct values of the punching!
