  2. This may be true only when the truss members are pin-jointed, and assumed so in the analysis. This assumption is historical and is basically adopted to simplify the analysis, most probably to carry out manual calculations. A more complex analysis will be required where the truss joints are rigid and impose significant bending loads upon the truss elements, as in a Vierendeel truss.
