  1. Great to have you here Ali. I can see, we will definitely benefit from you. Welcome Aboard!
  2. Considering athers reply, my post holds true if you are doing anaylsis by Equivalent lateral force method.
  3. True, Its important to know if its equilbrium torsion or compatibility torsion. If you know that you can decide the level of risk you can take by not doing calculations.
  4. I am grateful for the offer. Will let you know if I had any plans to move to Riyad! Many Thanks!
  5. This building promises to be tallest in Pakistan when completed. 6. sick money is lots of money. I dont personally know anyone who is in water resources. Sorry about that!
  7. I have worked for almost 2 years in commercial design in Islamabad and then came to canada to complete my masters in Structural Engineering. Masters is over
  8. I dont have cad so cant see what your layout is, but what I can do is that I have created a etabs sample that will help you understand how to get stresses from walls. When you want to report stresses from walls you have to assign them pier labels, like I did in the attached file. There is a horizontal load of 20kip in Y-Direction. For your own case, define walls, assign them proper strength and material properties of masonry, assign pier labels, diaphragm and apply lateral loading and report your stresses or forces for pier labels assigned. Hope it helps! Sample.zip
  9. I am not sure about that, but I know some people who are in hydrology & water resources and are making sick money. So, should be good, especially in Punjab but I think majority of posts available are in remote areas.(I am not sure sure about this though)
  10. there is a ACI Detailing Manual. We will upload it to Journal/ Article/ Tutorials section soon
  11. Modularization (fabricating offsite and transporting structural members to site and erecting them) for complete structure is very limited in Pakistan.
  12. Welcome aboard sohaib! Feel free to post and comment around.
  13. I have added .dwg file extension to database, so now you will be able to upload cad files. Just attach your files here. You many also want to consider using another software once the 1st pass is done by Etabs to verify your results. I will recommend TNO DIANA as Sir Badar mentioned above or 3Muri mentioned by Yasir(Nustian371) here. You can use hinge(pin) at base as it will result into a more conservative design.
  14. You have to see what your plans are. If you are planning to get a MS degree and settle abroad, then you should choose your MS discipline based on what civil industry is the hottest at that place. Normally every foreign university has a Pakistani Student Association now a days so that would be a good starting poin to ask about advice related to industry. For Pakistan, structures, geotech or transportation are the one I would place my money on. .
  15. Sure just attach you sketches here so others know too that what is going on and can comment.
  16. I m away from home! I can reply you in detail only when i get back!
  17. MASS is a design software only. Its easy to do analysis on any frame software. All we need to is to set it up correctly. It would be great if you can post the sketch/drawing of the house! Then we can decide how to analyse it in etabs!
  18. Oh i see! for analysis you can use Etabs. When you first mention using etabs for masonry you said design. Anyways for analysis you can use it or any other frame design software that supports shear walls. Just define the walls and diaphragm. Run analysis, get stress and forces and then use them in your software. Can you post the drawing of structure you are trying to analyse? I believe your system is a confined masonry system with masonry shearwalls. Please confirm. Thanks.
  19. I have replied to your topic in students zone.
  20. with reference to your post here. Thanks for explaining the situation. I assume you are using ACI provisions for masonry. There is a software called Structural Masonry Design Systems. You can use the trail version of it. You can download the trail version by clicking here. The trail version has only 3 restrictions, but you can do complete analysis as none of it hinders you to perform a full design. Review the link posted below to see the examples(the seminar handouts). http://www.ncma.org/...gnSoftware.aspx I hope that helps
