  1. AutoCad Etabs SAFE SAP Revit is used for Building Information Modelling (helps in Construction Management and Structural Engineering)
  2. My professor told me that the collapse mechanism where we calculate plastic moment or ultimate load is an example of pushover analysis. so i have made a beam with both ends fixed. when I apply load at center then the ultimate load will be 8Mp/L=8fyz/L which came to be 440KN My question is how to calculate the load at which beam starts yielding?
  3. I dont know about the wind loads. but you can check the adequacy of footing by clicking on reactions, and selecting the load case. if you want to check for bearing capacity, select the Soil pressure as type of reaction. But you must assign the soil supports to the footing by defining soil subgrade modulus.
  4. Asalamualaikum, how to do non linear analysis? can i do non linear analysis manually? Example: If i have to study non linear analysis, i have made a cantilever beam with point load at its end. for non linear analysis, i have used Tresca model for material non linearity and run it as non linear analysis option. 1. where can i find the values to put in Tresca model? 2. What does it mean if result converges or divergence occured? 3. How can I verify my result since i don't know any manual calculations or dont have any example? Thankyou
  5. I didn't use any brick element. I just made a solid block and gave it a property of 3D solid beam without using any beam element.(see screenshot) i will model masonry wall in my further research but now i was just trying to learn the software. therefore i was checking the stresses and results. anyway, if i find the solution i will share it here. Thank you
  6. Asalamualaikum, I have applied point load on cantilever beam (Lx=1m Ly=0.1m Lz=0.1m) at its free end (1N in z direction). i have divided the load on each node at top and bottom fibre (as shown in figure). why the software showing the SXY and and SYZ stresses since they will only develop due to torsion. it should show only SZX stress which are due to shear i.e VQ/Ib. i have also put poison ratio as zero. if i change the loading condition to uniform distributed loading, then it gives SXY,SYZ=0. Thankyou attached is the file showing x and y axis of the beam. it also shows sxy, syz and szx respectively.
  7. yes i am putting point load on node. Now after applying load as pressure and taking Poisson ratio as zero, there is no shear stress. Thank you for your response.
  8. no it give shear stresses at the free end where i applied the axial load. i have selected all the nodes and applied fixed end conditions on each node at the bottom of the column. the attached picture showing whole model having fixed supports at bottom. shear stress SXY is also shown as contours
  9. Assalamualaikum I made a column that is fixed at one end and free on the other end. When I apply an axial compressive load on it. It gives the shear stresses i.e SXY, SYZ and SZX. Why it shows shear stresses when there is only axial load at centroid of the cross section? *Attached is the file showing the shear stresses sxy, syz and szx
