Salam it might help check the doc in link http://www.bd.gov.hk/english/documents/code/FoundationCode2004.pdf

great response !!! cent per cent agreed that without real design job and without a mentor(senior structural engineer) it is impossible to learn the designing rather it is an abuse to the profession.

salam i have a building 2B+G+4, there is elevator at the floors 1,2 and 3 exactly above the main entrance at ground floor.i have to model it in SAP2000/ETABS how do the forces will be considered. It is a capsule lift and loads are not specified. i can not provide wall throughout from the basement or ground level. plan is attached. use triangular or rectangular mesh and do it manually.

snow fall data u may get from the MET department or use any conservative value based on the snow pattern of the area .

Specified Concrete Compressive Strength
Waqar Saleem replied to shahram555's topic in Concrete Design
It depends on the material code according to the by laws used in your area/region/state/country mainly. ACI states it should not be less than 3000psi for structural members( beams, columns etc.) also it is requirement of the structure that how much strength it requires and how slender or heavy sections are allowed by the architectural requirements and building use. -
ACI is used for concrete design and Building Code of Pakistan states it to follow it.

@jammer bro there is no calculation or data uploaded by you , would you be kind enough to provide the info how your design was?

Salam Does the longitudinal bars bending inwards or outwards at bottom effect the behavior of the support. how a more realistic fixed support can be made by detailing of reinforcement? Regards

salam I have to model a beam in SAP2000 which have one slab on top on one side and a slab on the other side at the bottom can we model it in this way? if it can be modeled any hint to model it. Regards

Salam if we have to increase the area of an existing column of size 24x24 reinforced with 22#8 bars to 36x36, columns has been erected on a 24" raft with 11ft height constructed, columns will be erected two more 11' heights. seismic zone 3. if steel jacketing applied how can the jacketing sizes, thickness and strength can be calculated. any other techniques can be applied? any literature relevant to this problem, code references, books, articles or case studies Regards

nice article "The objective of writing this article was to warn engineers about the tendency of blindly assigning rigid diaphragm to concrete slab in any type of building configuration. The result could be underestimation of forces as well as drifts." these lines should be underlined

Salam How ductility of a beam section (t or rectangular) is effected by reinforcement ratio? i know the concept of rho(balance), rho(min) and rho(max), my question is about ductility design and reinforcement ratio!!!

thanks,in one way slab main reinforcement is in shorter direction and negative reinforcement is also provided accordingly. but in practice in longer direction negative reinforcement is provided along with temperature reinf, i enquire the length of negative reinf provided above temp reinf, should it be L/3, L/5 or else
