  1. what is the difference between joint and connection in RC frame.
  2. yeah this is the paper i have gone through ,he has taken samples and then chose the Em=350f'm,might there is the difference of material from which bricks are made or the process by which they are baked compared to the american value.about 45 %-50% conservative result is irrational.
  3. i have gone through a paper it says that brick masonry has Em=350f'm so there is a great difference . unfortunately dnt have the paper with me at the moment i ll upload the actual lines later.
  4. load bearing wall and non load bearing wall is obvious. all structures bear loads there is no use of any structure without load bearing either it is masonry or RC frame or dual, these are different mechanisms which are used to transfer loads to ground.shear walls are of two type designed for only lateral force and for both lateral and gravity.there is no exact name for such structure it is dual system.
  5. thanx Rana, what about storey strength ?and what if one need to calculate storey stiffness without etabs.
  6. what is the modulus of elasticity for brick masonary?kindly refer to the literature
  7. thanx sir, means for storey stiffness we calculate the storey displacement just
  8. how to calculate the storey stiffness?and storey strength?
  9. actually there are two terms which are used comparatively load bearing structure and retaining structure, when load bearing structure is used it means gravity loads mainly ,when retaining structures refer to retaining walls and dams etc.
  10. @Rana for UBC97 i guess "obsolete" is very strong word ,it is very well in use still and makes basics very good though IBC has some extra or additional things.
  11. @raNA SIR you mentioned above "apply torsion modifier for beams = 0.35" is it right? isnt it 0.01?or it depends on the designer to select at his disposal?
  12. what kind of errors occur ,when auto generated load cases are used.
  13. raft analysis will be done in SAFE but is it necessary to draw raft in etabs for frame analysis or just making the joints fixed will fulfil the function of raft?as if we do not draw slabs in etabs it effects the frame analysis results
  14. when we have raft foundation, is it necessary to draw it as we draw slab or just select all the joints at base level and turning them to fixed support will generate the effect of raft in analysis?
  15. this is your comment sir which you made above "The term 'spring support' is used to represent a material/structural element whose behavior in only one direction is important, usually linear in nature; it is a mathematical term. The spring elements were used (in mathematical model) in the ealriest attempt of modelling soil under foundation, where only vertical displacements ( settlement) were main corncern for engineer, and these displacements were related to the bearing capacity through modulus of subgrade reaction. Piles can also be modelled by using springs in mathematical behaviour; interaction between poil and soil can be modelled by using spring elements in mathematical model." because of your highlighted wording i asked this question.i know roller is roller and spring is spring sir
  16. i guess there is difference sir, restraint is used when joint under consdieration behaves independently and constarints are used when two joints are making a pair and one is affecting other.
  17. we take density/weight 150pcf for RCC reqardless of concrete strength either 3ksi or 4ksi. so strength doesnt affect the weights ?
  18. How to draw shear wall in etabs?shear wall behaves like a vertical beam against lateral loading do we define it as area section or as beam?
  19. what is the difference between constraint and restraint?
  20. what are the advantages and uses of spring supports and where do we use them practically?
  21. there is a school is constructed with SCIP and they are used as structural components.as far as i studied these SCIP are mostly used for insulation purposes as there strength is as low as 1500psi.so i need to check the structural efficiency of these panels.
  22. salam anypbody have modelled any building with structural concrete insulated panels in etabs?or used in research work.
