Thanks my question is regarding foundation on weak soil, i came across the practice of providing beams under masonry walls, beams are of same width but depth greater than footing(like upstand beam in slabs). beam acts as inverted T-beam. i am asking the difference of soil structure interaction of foundation with beam and without beam. Dear Fellows I have encountered an issue; draftsmen/architects take projects from clients and make structural drawings without calculations and there are engineers whose stamps are available at printing shops which are stamped for very minimal charges. Structural engineers who are stamping as designer and as vetter are having filthy money without fulfilling their duties. These designers and vetters disregard the profession and engineering community, they do not have any ethics and sense of humanity. PEC do nothing or there is no complain against them. Being engineers and specially as structural engineers this is our responsibility to raise this issue to PEC or any other authorities and more to educate our engineering community that have respect and dignity in the profession, one must not disrespect his profession or let disrespected by such black sheep in the community. If a system/community have the ability to spit the wrong things out it remains alive and working perfectly. when system/community allows everything without check, such community is already dead. Structural engineers do not get projects who are working earnestly due to such people. Main aspect of design safety of humanity is at stack . This is totally against the PEC Code of Ethics. This is against the PEC Code of Conduct. Allah has bestowed us with great knowledge and brain to use for serving humanity and earning rizq e halal. We do use our brains rightly. We should stop this corruption by whatever means we can do.We must spit these non-professionals out of our community. This forum is one of the unique voice of structural engineering community, people comes here to get and share knowledge. I request to all the members that will stand with me on this issue. There is immense need to educate people that structural engineering is a business of life/economy saving, the fees structural engineers charge is nothing in comparison to the cost of lives lost during any incident due to incomplete and false designs or more accurate no designs. Salam Dear friends i need guidance on the foundation of masonry structure (2 storey residential with partial basement) on week soils, (BC 0.75tsf), which foundation will perform better, i) an strip RCC footing with an upstand/down beam under the wall. ii) strip RCC footing without beam.Share your experiences and any other good suggestions. Assalamoalaikum Dear Fellows The gathering was a nice wonderful meeting. Summary of the meeting i share for the SEFP members who wanted to attend but couldn't manage to appear. Gathering took place in F-7 markaz, islamabad, at 630pm, 10Dec, 2016. Seven members(Mr. Umar Makhzumi(Admin), Mr. Badar Ali Zeshan(Moderator), Mr. Uzair, Mr. Asad ishaq, Mr.Abdul Qadeer, Mr. Junaid shah and Mr. Waqar Saleem(Moderator)) managed to attend the meeting. Number is small but weightage is very high, it was intended to break the ice. we met at the entrance of Saeed Book Bank and after gathering went to a nearby hotel, ordered food and had many discussions.Discussion topics included how to improve the structural engineering profession, how a service structure for structural engineers should be introduced, SEFP advertising to different forums, at conferences and universities, registration of SEFP with PEC for CPD points, a book/magazine publishing annually/six monthly, improvement of the SEFP role for learning, inviting senior structural engineers to participate in training and guiding the young structural engineers. These are some topics which i could recall shortly.Food was shared. Prime requirement of SEFP is advertisement to structural engineering community and registration with PEC as Engineering Body, whose registration and active participation can provide CPD to structural engineers. if i have missed anything important can be added by meeting participants please. It was a unique experience and i thank all participants especially Umar sab, Badar Ali Zeshan sab, Uzair sab. Regards

These columns are like 9"x18" or 9"x21" . at places these are coming into the doors which should not be actually. if these are to confine masonry then you do not need that much larger sections just 9x12 or 9x9 columns are enough. if you are proposing a combined frame and masonary or frame only then increased columns sections will be used. make different design proposals and discuss personally some senior near you.

Salam What i got is that the girders toppled due to wind or any other mistake during launching and their inertial angle changed. Definitely, girders were not designed this way so collapsed in flexure at center region as both ends of girders are still on the supports. Regards

instability issue has been resolved it was due to the diagonal bracing center point. if i break the braces at center this instability message showed up and when in do not break them at center it resolves.

Salam Thanx Umar bhai, these arches are U and V are architectural requirements, it is more of an ornamental thing than a pedestrian bridge. All four vertical members and arches will be rapped in cladding with circular shape. Regards
