  1. Hello everyone, Can someone assist me to understand why the middle column has no moment transferred from the middle beam in the picture. The connections are all fixed. I expect no moment in the global X direction since they cancel out but why no moments in the Y direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. @Ayesha yes i did. I used 'thin shell' option. I wanted to know what stresses I'm supposed to look at to know whether the 5 Mpa is passed.
  3. Hello Everyone, Once a masonry wall is modeled in etabs, how can I see the stresses in the wall? I modeled a sample masonry wall of 5 Mpa and wanted to know when the wall in story 1 fails (compressive strength of 5 Mpa is exceeded) after adding one floor after another.
  4. Could you attach a picture of a typical wind distribution you've carried out?
  5. Hey Salma, Here is a pic of my wind loads on my building and settings. I expected them to be increasing as one went up, but I may be mistaken.
  6. Hello everyoneI analysed two different structures and discovered that etabs gave the wind loads as constant lateral loads at the top of each floor (except for the top floor which was lower for some reason). I expected the loads to increase as one went up floor by floor not be a constant value. Is this result standard for others using different codes? I use BS 6399 and I tried both the rigid diaphragm option and the 'load on null shells' option. Any illumination would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi @farhhhan, concrete as a material is heterogeneous. I have never used ACI but in the BS standards I use, a value of 0.67 f'ck which converts the cubes strength to cylinder strength because the cylinder more closely predicts the strength of the concrete (0.85 is the ratio we use) and an additional factor is used to take into account the size effect since concrete strength varies with size (as you have stated) plus the rate of load since in the real world loading isn't added as quickly in the lab. Very many studies have been carried out and it was proposed to take only about 0.8 of cylinder strength to account for all this which gave 0.67 (0.85 x 0.8). you use 0.85 which relates to my 0.8 so I feel you are ok.
