  1. It is an informative share but please quote the source too when you post something from the internet.
  2. Not true! On a lighter note, normally your Boss would tell you that and bump up the steel by 30%.
  3. When you know what you are doing, its doesnt matter its fast track or slow track!
  4. I prefer adding such effects manually. Once you have your stresses just do manual calculations and superimpose
  5. Good question, anyone knows the answer?
  6. I can check it, if you do it neatly.
  7. it is always a good idea to check. Takes 10 mins
  8. Yes it would be. Keep it simple & straight.
  9. What is the update jammer? did u design it? or using rule of thumb ?
  10. Thats an overkill. Dont do it for undergrad. Even @ grad level things can be confusing involving dynamics. The best system for you would be comparing different Lateral force resisting system for a commercial building with simple plan and elevation in terms of constructability, cost, labour, ease of construction etc. This suggestion has already been posted in forum, i am just repeating it here.
  11. MOI is more pronunced in bending. For Compression and Tension, it is not invovled.
  12. You might also think about turning the column 90 degree. Plus your drawing is wrong too. What it looks from section is a central beam running through the CL and cantilever stairs. Plan doesnt give that feeling.
  13. I would say forums are the best way to learn. It takes time but its worth it.
  14. Why do you need Ontario Building Code. Isnt the main code for Canada National Building Code??
  15. This is not a manual calculation. How do I know if your forumlas are right in excel. The only way to check this calculation is to make a new calculation.
  16. In US, I have seen classrooms, that have a capacity limit. Max 45 people.
  17. No once can teach you designing unless you are working on a real life project with real stress and pressure.
  18. submit your manual calculations.
  19. Draw using this. http://www.sepakistan.com/topic/3-etabssap2000-dome-geometry/
  20. Have you checked what load combo SAFE determines as max for punching and checked your values manually against that combo? I am saying this because, due to seismic, you can have large compression on columns, and manual check we do is mostly for 1.2D + 1.6L
  21. He is right. Moreover, Never follow safe blindly. Punching shear is the easiest to calculate, just do manual checks.
  22. Its also called cylinderness effect, as I said in my post.
