  1. We have been faced with a question, thought to put it on this forum for any comments/guidance If a column has maximum moments about x- axis when earth quack forces are applied in y direction and have maximum value of moment about y axis when earthquake forces are applied in x direction and we make two different load cases to cover x and y direction. While design of column will it be considered as bi-axially loaded column or we will design independently for both load cases as uni axial loaded column to explain my point following is the mathematical form Load case-1 D+L+Ex, it gives P and Myy Load Case -2 D+L+Ey, it gives P and Mxx what will be the design condition? P+Myy+Mxx ( Biaxial Codition) or P+Myy and P+ Mxx ( Check for both cases independently) Please reply
  2. Hi all I analysed a G+3 RCC building in ETAB. After analysis and design, i obtained the rebar percentage for each member. for columns, the value of rebar in 3rd story column got higher than the same column in 1st and 2nd story. is it correct..?
  3. How are you? When I designed RC frame using ETABS some columns will fail because of the message "axial comressive capacity for concrete exceeded limit" How can I manage this on my modeling?
  4. hello,I want to know how deep we have to go in the existing column by scratching off the layers of old concrete,to provide a bond for new rc column? Is there any minimum depth mentioned in any codes? like suppose the lapping should be 60 times Ld generally. Please help,my contractor is telling he would go 1 inch by digging 1 inch hole in the old concrete and i don't know if it is sufficient or not.
  5. Dear Members I am working on a project site where Column Reinforcement is as shown in the file. The Columns (C6 to C20) are going from +12'-0" to +48'-0" un-braced and without any slab at intermediate levels. The slab is at +12'0" and +48'0" level. The Reinf is changing and larger dia bars are provided on top. I want to ask that is it alright and what is the possible explanation of changing the number and dia of bars in-between ? Regards Column Reinf 1.pdf
  6. Here are a number of questions that I need answered. Help would be appreciated. Q1. In ETABS, what if the beam combined fail in Shear and Torsion? Need Solution Q2. In ETABS, Obtained moments on both ends on simple supported beams. What to do? Q3. Discuss dependance of foundation on bearing capacity of soil in SAFE model? What options do you have if the Bearing Capacity is very low? How would you check and find one way and two way shear in SAFE model? Q4. Why mass and weight are considered separate in ETABS? Q5. Differentiate b/w P-Delta analysis vs Dynamic Analysis? Q6. Material properties and strength of Concrete depend on what parameters? Q7. What limit "1" in punching shows in SAFE? Even if you know just one answer, please reply. It would be very helpful. Thank you and Regards.
  7. How brick columns work ???i have seen many 2storey houses with brick columns .are they sufficient to resist moments ???should columns be replaced by rcc columns or they are ok?
  8. ANYONE HAVING SPREADSHEET FOR DESIGN OF STEEL COLUMNS AND CHANNELS ANCHORED TO COLUMNS TO SUPPORT DECK? STAIR DETAIL.dwg
  9. what are stocky columns?where and why they are used ??
