  1. Hello, I am designing shear walls of a building located in a seismic region on ETABS. After running the shear wall design in the model, I haven't detected any failure warning. However I noticed that for some of the shear walls the stress comp on the boundary elements have exceeded the stress limit. My understanding is that for those cases, I have to manually calculate the transverse reinforcement for the boundary elements. Beside this calculation, is there another verification I have to make for the shear wall and boundary element ? Can I consider the shear walls dimensions checked even though their boundary elements are over stressed ? Many thanks.
  2. In Etabs, Can I model a wall with columns on it's ends and is it the same as the wall with boundary elements defined in section designer????
  3. I need some guidelines regarding design of Shear Wall in ETabs. I have attached Design Detail of one of the pier of a 30 story building in Islamabad. this pear is at the basement and the analysis is "Dynamic". I have a feeling that the flexure reinforcement required is too little for this type of structure. In most of the cases flexure reinforcement is either controlled by the spacing requirements or the confinement requirements of Boundary Element. The analysis is based on UBC-97. Obj.Docx
  4. c >= lw/(600(du / hw )) This formula determine's whether we will be requiring the boundary element or not. But how to find 'c'? Everywhere it says that we have to perform strain compatibility equation. I can understand concrete will have a 0.003 at one end but what about the other end? and also we have quite many steel bars in between both ends, not as simple as a beam. Kindly help in this regards.
