Retaining walls in ETABS absorb much of base shear if our whole basement is confined by retaining walls,what is the correct way of modelling retaining walls? can we neglect them in the model?or if we model them what are the correct modifiers for them, I am vetting a project in which the designer put all the modifiers to 0.7 in membrane and bending and retaining walls is absorbing 54%of base shear in X direction and 46% in Y direction is this the correct way of modelling???

Salam kindly comment on the attached response of a building,building is 3B+G+29,structural system is dual.this response is for 1.2D+1.6L.immediate above Lower ground level there is abrupt behavior why is it so?.seismic zone is 2B.building height is 470' shorter dimension is 160'. regards response.bmp

What are the code requirements for drift of a basement wall in seismic zone? Lateral earth pressure produces elastic deflections whereas seismic generate inelastic sway (after multiplying elastic by Cd/I in ASCE/IBC). Now how to combine both? and by what combination?
